LET’S INVESTIGATE

From five faces to a prism

  1. This prism has three rectangles and two equilateral triangles.
  2. Press New net. Choose Rectangle or Triangle, then click a + on a matching edge. The faces snap together exactly.
  3. Click a coloured face to remove it and any faces attached through it. Use Undo to go back.
  4. Predict what will happen, then press Fold it. The slider folds in either direction; its middle is flat.
  5. If it makes a prism, record your net. A rotated or flipped copy counts as the same net.
  6. Turn, flip and move the nets in Your discoveries to compare your ideas.

A square grid cannot fit all these angles, so this board uses edges that snap together. There are nine different nets to discover.
